Electrical Engineer (Low Voltage- LV)
Senior LV Electrical Engineer | Lisbon/Porto, Join CTS Group and lead the design, technical delivery, protection strategy, and commissioning of large-scale Data Centre and mission-critical electrical.
Role Overview
The Senior LV Electrical Engineer defines the low-voltage electrical distribution strategy for data center and mission-critical facilities, holds technical sign-off authority, and mentors junior and intermediate engineers.
The role owns compliance with IEC/EN standards and the Portuguese RTIEBT regime, leads protection and coordination strategy, and manages liaison with authorities, vendors, and clients from concept through commissioning, across CTS's EMEA project portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Define the LV electrical distribution design strategy across switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, PDUs, busbar systems, and LV switchboards.
Provide technical authority and design sign-off for LV electrical packages.
Lead protection and coordination studies and arc flash assessments, and approve final settings and equipment ratings.
Conduct design risk assessments and lead value-engineering/optimisation reviews for LV scope.
Lead multidisciplinary MEP/BIM coordination and enforce modelling standards and BIM execution plans.
Oversee design and installation quality; lead commissioning and integrated testing of LV systems.
Lead vendor and OEM negotiations and technical evaluation for switchgear, UPS, and generator packages (e.g., Schneider Electric, ABB, Eaton, Vertiv, Caterpillar/Cummins).
Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and review their design deliverables.
Liaise with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), DGEG, and clients on electrical compliance and certification matters.
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's preferred.
10+ years in LV electrical engineering, including experience leading mission-critical/data-center design.
Expert command of IEC 60364, IEC 61439, EN standards, and full RTIEBT design responsibility.
Familiarity with DGEG registration and certified electrical installer requirements in Portugal.
Advanced proficiency across AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, Navisworks, and ETAP or SKM PowerTools for protection/coordination and arc flash studies.
Deep knowledge of UPS technologies (Li-ion vs. VRLA), generator/genset specifications, MV/LV interface considerations, and OEM coordination.
Proven leadership, mentoring, and client/authority engagement skills.
