Environmental Lead
Role Overview
As Environmental Lead, you will lead and support the delivery of environmental and EHS requirements across CTS Group data centre construction sites, from the CTS-VDC Services office. You will work with construction management, package leads, procurement, and client teams to embed environmental controls into daily delivery, ensure requirements are met, and maintain audit-ready evidence from mobilisation through handover. The role is delivery-driven and multi-site. You will run consistent processes for data capture, permit and consent evidence, and compliance tracking, and coordinate actions across contractors and work packages. You will translate Employer’s Requirements into practical checklists, apply judgment to construction decisions, and maintain alignment through concise reporting and meeting cadence.
Key Responsibilities
Multi-Site Environmental Coordination. Own and develop an environmental plan for assigned projects and coordinate implementation across civil, structural, MEP, and fit-out packages, ensuring actions are assigned, scheduled, and closed out.
Data Collection and Evidence. Establish routines to capture waste, materials, chemicals, fuel, energy, water, logistics, monitoring results, and incidents; validate submissions; and maintain traceable records aligned to project requirements.
Permits and Compliance Support. Track permit/consent conditions through submittals and delivery, manage contractor follow-up and document approvals, substitutions, and non-compliances.
Specifications and Risk Control. Convert Employer’s Requirements and client standards into site controls; monitor compliance via audits and site walks; raise deviations early; and drive corrective actions with package owners.
Reporting and Client Meetings. Produce weekly and monthly environmental updates covering KPIs, risks, issues, and decisions required; prepare meeting packs; present progress; and track actions to completion.
Construction-Stage Improvements. Identify opportunities to reduce impacts during construction (spill prevention, waste prevention, segregation, dust/noise controls, temporary power efficiency, and logistics optimisation), assess cost and programme implications; and coordinate implementation.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related discipline. A relevant Master’s degree is an advantage.
7+ years’ experience in construction delivery, site environmental management, or EHS coordination, ideally on complex industrial or data centre projects.
Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or working towards chartership, with a risk-based approach to compliance, assurance, and evidence quality.
Experience working with specifications, submittals, permits, and QA-style document control.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, programmes, and quantity information, and to work effectively with site teams, suppliers, and client stakeholders. Strong organisational skills, with experience managing trackers, prioritising competing demands, and communicating clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.
