We are seeking a Mechanical Lead to join our growing team on a major data center project in Kouvola, Finland. This is a pivotal role for an experienced mechanical professional who can lead multidisciplinary coordination and ensure technical excellence.
Role Overview
The Mechanical Lead will oversee mechanical systems and services on site, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection. You will manage the end-to-end delivery of mechanical works - from planning and design coordination to installation, testing, and commissioning - ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of mechanical systems for the project
- Coordinate with other disciplines (electrical, civil, architectural) to ensure integrated design and seamless construction
- Supervise and manage mechanical subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to achieve schedule and performance goals
- Review mechanical designs, specifications, and drawings, ensuring compliance with project and regulatory standards
- Provide technical guidance during design development, value engineering, and constructability reviews
- Oversee testing, commissioning, and handover of all mechanical systems
- Troubleshoot on-site issues and propose practical, cost-effective solutions
- Ensure all mechanical installations meet Finnish building regulations, EU directives, and international standards
- Conduct site inspections, QA/QC checks, and risk assessments to maintain high-quality workmanship
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including QA/QC reports and commissioning records
- Chair or participate in coordination meetings and liaise with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders
- Report project progress, risks, and mitigation actions to project leadership
Key Responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 7-10 years' experience managing mechanical systems delivery on large-scale construction projects; data center or mission-critical facility experience preferred
- Proven expertise in HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems
- Strong understanding of BIM processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead subcontractors and manage multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent technical problem-solving and coordination skills
- Knowledge of sustainable mechanical design and energy-efficient solutions is an advantage
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); Finnish language skills are beneficial
- Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
- Detail-oriented with a focus on safety, quality, and performance
- Proactive, adaptable, and effective in fast-paced, high-tech construction environments
