As we continue to expand our hyperscale data centre portfolio, we are seeking an experienced and technically strong Commissioning Lead to join our project team in Kvandal, Norway.
This is a critical role within one of our mission-critical projects, responsible for ensuring the successful transition from construction to fully operational facility handover. Working closely with project leadership, engineering teams, clients, subcontractors, and commissioning partners, you will drive commissioning excellence across all mechanical, electrical, controls, and life safety systems.
The Role
As Commissioning Lead, you will take ownership of commissioning planning, coordination, execution, and reporting activities throughout the project lifecycle. You will be instrumental in ensuring all systems perform reliably, safely, and efficiently before client handover, supporting CTS's commitment to delivering world-class data centre facilities.
This role requires strong technical knowledge, exceptional organisational skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, mission-critical construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Leadership
Lead and manage all commissioning activities from pre-functional testing through functional performance testing and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
Develop and implement commissioning strategies aligned with CTS project delivery objectives.
Drive system readiness, milestone achievement, and successful project handovers.
Project Coordination
Collaborate with construction, engineering, QA/QC, design, commissioning, and project management teams to ensure seamless delivery.
Coordinate subcontractors, OEM vendors, specialist contractors, and third-party commissioning providers.
Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, CSA, BMS, EPMS, and Operations teams to manage system interfaces and dependencies.
Client & Stakeholder Management
Act as a key commissioning interface with clients and commissioning consultants.
Coordinate test witnessing schedules and readiness reviews.
Provide regular progress updates, risk assessments, and commissioning status reports to project leadership and client teams.
Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and commissioning workshops.
System Readiness & Testing
Develop readiness plans and verify completion of all commissioning prerequisites, including:
QA/QC sign-offs
Equipment inspections
Flushing and cleaning activities
Energisation approvals
Vendor start-up activities
Support and oversee FATs, SATs, integrated testing, and witness testing of critical systems.
Documentation & Reporting
Manage commissioning documentation including:
Pre-functional checklists
Functional testing procedures
Method statements
Equipment start-up records
Defect and issue logs
Turnover documentation
Track system readiness and test outcomes through commissioning management platforms and digital delivery tools.
Ensure turnover packs and final handover documentation are completed to the highest standard.
Safety & Quality Leadership
Promote and uphold CTS's commitment to safety excellence and quality delivery.
Ensure all commissioning activities are executed in accordance with site safety requirements and industry best practices.
Participate in EHS, QA/QC, and project readiness meetings.
Support the delivery of a zero-harm culture across all commissioning activities.
What We're Looking For
Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
Additional commissioning or data centre-related certifications are advantageous.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of commissioning experience within construction, engineering, or mission-critical environments.
At least 2 years in a commissioning leadership role on a data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial, or other critical infrastructure project.
Experience delivering commissioning activities on large-scale construction projects from installation through handover.
Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of:
Electrical distribution systems
UPS and standby power systems
HVAC and cooling infrastructure
BMS and EPMS systems
Fire detection and life safety systems
Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
Working knowledge of commissioning standards such as ASHRAE, BSRIA, and Uptime Institute methodologies.
Experience using commissioning and project management platforms such as CxAlloy, CxPlanner, Procore, BIM 360, or equivalent.
