Role Summary
The Senior Project Director is accountable for the successful delivery of major data center projects in Spain, from mobilization and detailed design coordination through construction, commissioning and handover.
The role operates within an integrated delivery model combining CTS Group’s in-house design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities with external consultants, contractors, specialist subcontractors and suppliers.
The Senior Project Director will provide overall project leadership while remaining personally involved in programme management, project controls, procurement, risk, reporting, stakeholder coordination and the resolution of delivery issues.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership and Delivery
· Assume overall accountability for the assigned project.
· Establish clear project objectives, delivery priorities, governance and decision-making arrangements.
· Lead the project through design, procurement, manufacturing, construction, commissioning and handover.
· Oversee commissioning activities, Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and operational readiness to ensure a successful handover to the end user.
· Ensure compliance with applicable Spanish construction regulations, data centre industry standards, environmental requirements and permitting obligations.
· Translate contractual obligations and client requirements into a practical delivery strategy.
· Maintain control of safety, quality, programme, cost and operational readiness.
· Champion a strong safety culture on-site, ensuring zero harm and full regulatory compliance.
· Take timely decisions and intervene directly where project performance is at risk.
Integrated Delivery Coordination
· Coordinate CTS design, engineering and manufacturing companies with the requirements of the Spanish project.
· Define responsibilities, deliverables, interfaces and information flows between all contributing parties.
· Ensure alignment between design, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, installation and commissioning.
· Coordinate the integration of off-site manufactured systems into the site programme.
· Identify and resolve technical, contractual and organisational interface gaps.
· Ensure that design changes are properly assessed, controlled and communicated.
Hands-On Project Management
· Own and actively manage the integrated master programme.
· Chair project, design, procurement, construction and executive coordination meetings.
· Monitor milestones, critical path activities, dependencies, constraints and decision dates.
· Maintain project dashboards, KPI reports, action trackers and progress reports.
· Manage risk, change, decision and interface registers.
· Review look-ahead programmes and verify that short-term activities support the overall programme.
· Personally follow up critical actions and delivery blockers.
· Ensure that reporting is accurate, evidence-based and suitable for management decisions.
Commercial, Procurement and Supply Chain
· Work with commercial and legal functions to protect CTS’s contractual and financial position.
· Monitor budgets, commitments, forecasts, variations, claims and potential liabilities.
· Ensure that scope changes are identified and managed through the appropriate contractual process.
· Support commercial negotiations with clients, contractors and suppliers.
· Align procurement and manufacturing schedules with the master programme.
· Monitor long-lead equipment, design release dates, approvals, production and delivery commitments.
· Develop mitigation measures where procurement, manufacturing or logistics threaten the programme.
Client and Stakeholder Management
· Act as the senior project contact for the client and key stakeholders.
· Build trust through transparent, accurate and solution-oriented communication.
· Present project status, risks, decisions and recovery measures clearly.
· Manage expectations without concealing delivery challenges or making unsupported commitments.
· Coordinate with consultants, authorities, utility providers and other external stakeholders.
· Escalate critical matters appropriately while maintaining constructive relationships.
Development of CTS Spain
· Contribute to the development of CTS Spain’s project-delivery organisation and processes.
· Identify the resources and external capabilities required for current and future projects.
· Support the recruitment and development of project, construction, planning and commercial personnel.
· Establish repeatable project-management tools, templates and reporting standards.
· Transfer knowledge from the project into the wider Spanish organisation.
Candidate Profile
Experience and Qualifications
· Extensive experience as Project Director, Construction Director or equivalent on complex engineering or construction projects.
· Data center, mission-critical, industrial or technically complex building experience is highly desirable with demonstrable responsibility for projects valued above 100€M
· Experience working under EPC, EPCM, Design & Build or similar complex contractual delivery models.
· Strong experience coordinating design, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning.
· PMP or equivalent project management certification would be an advantage.
· Strong knowledge of project controls, construction sequencing, MEP systems, commercial management and change control.
